I feel obliged to note that neither these colors or the background should be considered set in stone; I decided to play it safe and stick with the current color scheme, but, like I said, that can change quickly.

I decided to go with sections like About Us, Student Work, and Events in the navbar, as well as prominently showing Student Work, an overview of New Media, as well as latest news and events, on the front page to get prospective parents and students interested in learning more about the major. We’re only going to survive as a major if we have new students, and a good looking website with information that new students and their parents are going to want to know prominently displayed will go a ways to attracting new students.

I also decided to go with adding a student sign in where, upon signing, they get additional options for things that are important to them and not so much to prospective students, such as links to portfolio websites and reserving equipment. This way they get links that are important to them without it cluttering up the experience for a prospective student. This could also lead to a system where the account they set up with this site is also the account they can use for other WordPress sites, such as their portfolio site or the Digital Storytelling site.
