Grass farming and Pastured Poultry really go hand in hand, so I feel as if I can combine them into one research bout.

Both practices are being done by Joel Salatin on Polyface farm in Virginia.

This is a farming practice in which livestock is brought up in fields and pastures eating grass or their natural food source rather than being stuffed into an indoor facility.

Cows are allowed to graze the grass, chickens are sent in to pick at the new fertile sprouts of grass and the various insects that are disturbed by the cow grazing.

This solves our problems with nutritional value in our meat products.

By moving the animals from cages or pens into a wide open space the chance of sickness or disease goes down.

Also, allowing the animals to eat what their natural diet would be allows for better nutritional value in the food.

Cows aren’t supposed to eat grain, grain was just easier to process and give to them. By eating their natural food cows are less likely to become sick. By letting them be “free range” allows for them to be happy, and happy meat is good meat.

Animals killed under stressful conditions are prone to have less nutritional, less tasty meat.

Essentially pastured poultry is a form of grass farming.
