Hacktivism Intent—FrankS
This project was using a unity engine and is designed for people to be able to test and plan protests and other public group gathers as well as simulate what the overall outcome of the protest or other event might be.
The people who would benefit from this are people who are planning a protest and would like a better more accurate way of going about it. This could also be used as a tool to show people what your plans for the protest might be and simulate how the event is going to unfold. This project would be important because it can give protestors and other organizers the ability to better plan their event and weather it’s doable or not.
Some features that could be added are the ability figure out the risk and how effective it will be based on how populated the area is, how many people are planning on protesting and the type of protesting that will be displayed. Another feature could be to plan how much the protest is going to cost so they can get a sense of what kind of cash they are going to have to dish out for a successful protest. You can also account for people who break the rules of protesting such as getting violent or breaking the law in some way as well as the police showing up. Space is a huge part of a successful protest so you can plan for the space that you plan to use. You can plan on unexpected people joining into the protest and if the protest gets to large you can move it to another larger or more significant location. This feature is key when panning out events that involve marching. Lastly there will be a share function that allows the user to send the simulation to other people that might be interested in seeing it.

Concept
I like the idea, but I feel like an issue might arise from opposition to the protests. If users of simulation aren’t actually protesting, but looking at the updates and might be planning some sort of attack. This is a lot of tinfoil/conspiracy theory, but you might want to think of this as showing the other team all of your plays before you start the game.
Design
Additionally, I’m not totally clear on the way the simulation would work. Is it pulling city data and plugging in numbers of people? Or is this all drawn by the users?
I think this sort of project would be “one to one”, unless it was shared at a larger scale, which could potentially make protests more dangerous if these plans fell into the hands of anti-protestors. This project is interesting to me because there have been a lot of protests recently that I have been a part of, and if there was a way for this to actually work, I think it could be pretty effective.
I think the design could be more clear, but I get the general idea. The design definitely invites participation and attention. In order for the program to work, at least one person needs to be filling out the available information about upcoming protests.
I believe just Unity is involved as far as I can tell. If that’s the case, then this should be pretty low cost, and readily available to anyone with a computer.
I think the intended audience is for people who want to get involved with their community and government, to implement a change. It states what the purpose is, and lately that’s a very common purpose, so I think it’s automatically geared for its intended audience. I think this project would definitely appeal to protest organizers. There’s an unlimited possibility of things that could happen during protests, but I think this might give slightly more clarity to someone organizing these kinds of events. There doesn’t seem to be any passion conveyed in this intent, but I’m sure there is somewhere. I’ve never heard of this kind of program before, so as far as I know it’s original.
