[EDITED] Approach 1 – SophiaCC LorenH TannerM
A new edition of the popular news magazine The Economist, but with a twist: instead of reporting the actual news, this edition will cover hypothetical stories that could happen with some changes to government policy or societal norms.
This is a two part project: the first is a physical copy of the fake magazine distributed on campus. The second part is a website, a clone of economist.com that has the same stories as the magazine; this will be distributed using stickers displaying the url posted around the Bangor area. Both platforms will have a portion that is dedicated to a statement about what the project is, as well as a collection of resources to help bring the stories about: Contact information for representatives, tips and tricks for organizing protests, etc. Because that is the goal of this project- to release a magazine full of stories of things that could be reality if there were some changes in our government and society.
The audience is college students in the Bangor area: liberal thinking young people (millennials and gen Z people) who are sick of the gun violence, conservatism, big business and capitalism in our politics, and people who believe in the human rights of marginalized groups.
The budget for this project is variable, depending on the scope.
Web domain: about $10/year
Printing the magazine: ~ $.30/page so easily $50
Printing the stickers: ~$25 for a set of stickers.
Labor time: 10 hours to write and gather articles, 10 hours total to finesse graphic design details of the site and ‘zine and to make the mock website, and 5 hours to print and distribute the physical zines and stickers.
25 Hours Total x 15$ an hour
Total: 460$ if hourly paid employees are involved
It would be 85$ total if it were a project of love and the people working on it didn’t receive pay. (i.e. us)
