Approach 3- PeterB, MitchF
- Background:this gives any brief info the viewer needs to better understand the project:
In first world countries, it seems as if everyone has a smart phone these days. In fact, in the whole world, about 65% of people have phones. So, this project could benefit up to 65% of the people in the world. We constantly drain are phones and are plugging them into chargers to make sure that we don’t run out of battery. There was of course the invention of the charging phone case, which was a pretty impactful idea. However, you still have to charge the phone case. So although it is more convenient, at the end of the day, you still need electricity to charge your phone. Pete and I ran across a coffee mug USB charger, and this sparked Idea. This project uses heat from the mug to create energy, which translates to a USB charger. So we thought, what if there was a way to make a phone case that charges your phone for you so you never need to plug into an outlet again?
This is the coffee mug USB Charger
Here is a visual of the technology that would actually lie within the phone case and translate the warmth into energy:
- Explanation:while the project should be able to stand on its own, this section allows you to give any brief info for the viewer
We would create a phone case that self-charges through the warmth of your own hand and even the warmth of your own body (Phone in pocket). Using very similar technology as the coffee mug USB charger, we would use the phone case exterior itself as a converter. The phone case would actually use the warmth from your hand and body (aka usage of just holding your phone, or keeping it on you) to charge your phone case, which in turn charges your phone. This would bypass using electricity from an outlet to charge your phone all together and no one would ever have worry about charging a phone again.
- Credits:who was involved, or what sources or inspirations you had for the project. Mention specific classmate feedback, for example.
Ann Makosinski was the person who sparked our idea building off of the technology she discovered to build the coffee mug USB charger. Pete Blangiardi and Mitch Fossier were responsible for coming up with the Self Charging Phone Case under the name WarmerTech. Joline Blais also helped in suggesting the usage of body warmth to create energy as well.
- Simple Budgetfor estimated cost.
Researchers/Developers: Obviously this is pretty big task to actually create this technology. If we hired a team of five researchers and developers to work on the project for 6 months at $75 an hour per person, this is the math we would come up with:
$75 per hr X 8hr a day X5 (days a week) X26 (Weeks in half a year) = $78,000 per worker/developer
$78,000 per worker/developer X5 (amount of workers/developers being hired) = $390,000
Work Space:
$1,000 a month for rent X 6 (months) = $6,000
Supplies for prototypes = $10,000
Total Budget: $406,000
