Don’t turn your back on Nature…
My EcoArt approach uses Android VR to give the user an opportunity to observe a beautiful scene either created out of fiction and/or derived from real locations. It features beautiful vistas that the user can observe through VR goggles. It features the use of sound and light to convey certain levels of emotions.
What the viewer does not realize is that behind them, trash is piling up. When you look around and discover the trash, the user is suddenly surprised. The juxtaposition of having serene scenery to relax within is impacted by the presence of human junk outside of its context.
This piece is to help promote a greater admiration of nature. Litter is something we don’t notice because it is already present by the time we arrive at a place. We shake our heads and keep on walking. Rarely do we actually see litter being created at the moment? Here I bring that moment to light and forces the viewer to reconcile with the intrusion.
The amount of time spent on this project was about five hours total with scene creation and scripting. Many of the assets present within the scene were free quick grabs from the Unity Asset Store. Most of the work was spent in crafting the scene with the assets and tailoring the environment to suit my expectations.

Could a situation where animal-models become integrated into this become possible? There could be subtle (or not so subtle) interactions they have with the trash; one thing which comes to mind is a pseudo-comedic moment where a bottle goes flying and kills a squirrel. Something morbid enough to juxtapose the beautiful environment and make the player think about how animals are impacted.
