Autobotography Approach – EliF
This project utilizes biometric sensors and microprocessors to measure you biomarkers. The bracelet will have a built in ECG and ECG to measure your heart and brain activity. These reading will be synced with your mobile device and the data compiled into a timeline.
These biomarkers would be compiled into a graph of your life. The graph would show changes in heart rate, the electrical activity of your body, and respiratory rate. Alongside this data you may input events in your life such as a workout, breakup, promotion, and stress and give feasible meaning to the data. The program would learn the signatures of how different activities affect you. This would keep a record of your life through your heartbeat through ups and downs and let you look back on your life via your heart.
In a perfect world there would also be a feature to let you compare your life to others using a social network of heart beats. You could see how other people were feeling as a significant event happened. All this data would be uploaded when you were near wifi. This would bring a new level to the intimacy of social networks. You could see how comments and posts affect a person as they read them. This would depend on the cooperation of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. This would allow you to put your more intimate reactions online for everyone to see.
Below is a picture of the proposed mobile interface. the first picture is the splash page. The second is how you connect your device and an icon of the finished product. The third is the most important. It displays your biomarkers. You can select which markers you are interested in seeing and see an analysis of them. It has an options to change the timeline in the graph and see past results.
This project was inspired by the current fitness tracker trend. These technologies are becoming smaller and more accessible. Nothing is more unique to yourself than your own heart beat. Being about to see it morph and change over time is just a very interesting concept for me. I thought this would be a very interesting way to show who I am. Being able to look back on times or joy, stress, heartbreak would be fascinating.
Making a prototype of this wouldn’t be to hard. It would include an arduino and a few sensors. The programming would be the hardest part. I would 3d print a flexible housing for the device so you can wear it on your wrist or around your neck.
Price breakdown:
Device :
Arduino nano/wifi: $10
Sensors: $10
Wiring: $10
Housing: $7
Website :
Servers: $120/year
Front end coding 10 hours
Backend coding 30 hours
Mobile development 30 hours
Assuming $25/hour coding the final price would be: $1,750 startup.
These estimates would be for a rough design. A clean and compact one may be more but I have no way to check these manufacturing prices. As the website grows the server space would also need to grow causing your server price to go up. Eventually this product would have the capability for you to record your entire life though data.
