Autobotography Intent—FrankS
Summary
This is a Unity game that puts people into an ethical dilemmas and lets them choose how to react and persevere through the situation.
Concept
For my intent I want to create a unity experience that puts the user into a variety of ethical dilemmas. I am interested to see how each person would react to each scenario based on a variety of different factors. Some factors might include that the experience is virtual, different scenario, and different peoples backgrounds. After the user completes the experience I would ask them to fill out a survey that asks them how they felt about each decision and if they would change how they react if the scenario was real. I am interested in recording the decision that people make and compare them to other people’s decisions so in the game I would create a table that shows me how each person reacted to each situation. This way I would be able to compare and contrast decisions to see if people picked one more than the other. Based on that information I can determine if people are programed similarly or widely different. I would also be interested to see how different cultures react to the experience so I would have to make the experience universal or have minimal dialog.
Some of the experiences would be obvious in what would be considered widely as the right decision and others would be more obscure and less straightforward. Some of the questions I am considering are…
- Would you murder someone who is going to turn into a zombie but is still human?
- Should you push a button when you don’t know what it does?
- Is it easier to fit in or be yourself?
- Should you look at someone’s personal information?
- Are you obligated to lend money to friends and family?
- Is it considered stealing when you ask for a water cup and get soda instead?
Budget
These are just some questions that I may or may not use. The budget for this project would be pretty low because I would want to do this myself and only have to pay for certain assets that I would want to use. In terms of time I think at this would take 15-20 hours of good work time to complete. The coding for this project would be pretty straight forward, nothing I don’t know how to do. Assembling the experience might take some time to put together and test. Overall I think that this project is very doable and something I am very interested in completing.

This one is interesting as there are many ways it could go. Will the player be able to choose how heavy the subject matter is? Will it progressively get darker? Will it just be simple questions like would you steal a cookie if you couldn’t get caught? This kind of project may also be skewed as most games with morality systems go, especially without the human connection to the characters in the experience. Answers will vary greatly based on that connection. Undertale for instance makes you get attached to the characters the instant they show up, making one route more difficult to do than the other. Same with Knights of the Old Republic, where you can make some really dark, possibly psychologically scarring decisions for some of the characters. I’d say try to find some way to make the in game characters quirky and possibly have consequences for each answer to make it a true test of morality.
