Autobotography Intent – JasonD
The me that never should be
This work is a self-portrait of the person I never was. In it I explore the ideas and philosophies behind what makes a person, and who they become as a result of their experiences.
It has been my personal goal to always do the right thing, as best as I can. Loyal to my friends, and dependable for an honest answer. Supportive where needed. However, there is always that dark side that lurks in the depths of one’s psyche. The animal that lives deep in the brain.
Often times post-apocalyptic imagery bring out the savageness of humanity. Where even cruel acts can be perceived as kindness. Often times they are bleak, filled with brutality, hunger, and need. Many stories are painted with pain and suffering. It is this world that I take my modern day self, and twist me into the person that never was. Emotions and history are usually etched into the lines of people’s faces. You can tell a person who smiled more often then scowled just by looking at their face. It is these minor details that have shaped the face of who we are. It is our upbringing that changes how we look. It is the world we live in that shape our views.
It is through this attempt that I want to bring awareness concerning the malleability of our emotions and perspectives. How the world treats us often times is expressed through our actions and views. Perhaps through this work, I can help others identify what it is that makes them who they are, and more importantly, be aware of the differing perspectives of others.
This is a single art piece in which I explore my personal beliefs, challenge them in the face of strife. Through these virtual scenarios, I will carve their effects into the face, stance, and decorum of my alternate portrait.
labor will include my time spent working on the actual artwork. This could be measured anywhere from three hours to six hours or more. This depends entirely on the amount of detail desired in the final image. I may spend an hour or two researching facial features and how they are influenced by time and strife. I intend on using Adobe Photoshop, as part of an already purchased license to the creative suite.
