My College Life Through Snapchat_ JimB
Right now my idea for an autobotography project is to document a day of my life at school through the use of social media, specifically the through the app known as Snapchat, by making numerous posts throughout the day showcasing what it is that I’m currently up to. The whole purpose is to show what my life is like as a college student, and will benefit me in that it will help me to display a kind of self on social media I don’t normally show, and will thus help me learn what it would be like to show that particular self to the target audience.
The audience is going to consist of the 40-50 people that follow me on Snapchat, since they’re the ones that will be seeing my posts. These people for the most part consist of my closest friends, old friends from high school, and some of my co-workers.
The posts will show whatever it is I’m up to throughout the day. For example, if I’m about to drive to school, rather than take a picture while driving, I’ll take a picture of my car and it’ll say something like “off to school now,” or “on my way home,” or something along those lines. When I get to a class, I’ll make a quick post showing what the room the class is in looks like, and I’ll write what class I’m at into the post.
I’ll even post more mundane things to show how I’m feeling. Like say I forget to bring food and it frustrates me because I’m really hungry, I’ll even post about that, or other more mundane aspects that don’t really matter as much.
The most I can say budget-wise is that it will be approximately $1.99, since that’s the approximate amount of how much I spent to get the app on my phone back when I was a senior in high school, plus another $195.00 since that’s approximately how much I spent to get an iPhone the same year. So the budget will be approximately $197.00 financially. Time wise, my budget will be an entire day’s length. As my plan for this project is to have it last an entire day’s length, from when I wake up in the morning, to when I go to bed in the evening.

This seems like it would be an awesome project to follow. It allows more insight to individualized college experiences so people can get a much clearer picture of a college student in their studies. It would be interesting to see how this project would stack up for an entire semesters length or even a college career’s length as opposed to just one day. Something to consider would be how often you plan to make a snap chat post to show more of or less of your daily life. All in all it’s a really interesting project.
I don’t really see how this is any different than just having a social media account. There are lots of people who already share every second of everyday of their lives on social media. I think that you could make it more interesting if you include videos and find ways to make it more personal than a social media account.
