Shattered Image
An inspiring art form that shows a person they are more than their outside appearance.
When discussing the issue of self-reflection the first concept I think of is a mirror and how it is a literal reflection of the self. A mirror can show the appearance of a person, without any depth into their own personality and how unique they are. A person is made up of several traits, interests and dislikes that shape their personality. These pieces can be connected directly or indirectly, but all these pieces create one personality and are in a sense all grouped together. I then point to a broken mirror with all its individual pieces. These pieces can still reflect and can still reflect the image of a person, but only if they are far away. Up close you have only a piece of the picture that makes up a person’s image. Bringing these pieces together makes the image whole again, but with visual connections that are the break likes in the mirror.
My idea is to have different pieces of a mirror with labels and different colored glass that fit together like puzzle pieces. These pieces can be arranged in any order to create different combinations of color and shape. On these pieces are small magnetic spots that will hold labels with different types of traits on them. These labels have words like leader, smart, kind, football, ice cream, etc. This will give users the ability to personalize their mirrors to represent themselves. The idea behind this product is that it will promote self-esteem and encourage people to look at bettering themselves on the inside and not just the outside.
To order a personalized mirror we will have customers take a picture of themselves and describe themselves in up to 20 words. The number of words given will determine how many pieces of the mirror there are and their image will be the overall shape of the mirror.
Costs:
Mirrors, window coloring, and magnets will be used for materials
Website to allow customers to submit orders.
Will require use of a machine capable of cutting mirrors into exact dimensions
Time to create each product depends on the amount of pieces in the mirror itself, but should take less than an hour preferably.
Consumer pays for shipping.
A rough estimate for cost would be around $15 -$30 range.

what if mirror pieces had two sides with opposite or complementary characteristics? Also could you create one version of this in prototype that might show your autobiography at say two different moments?
