  • One sentence summary: This project would be revolved around creating a phone charging case that would use the energy gathered from the warmth of your own hand.

  • 2-3 paragraph description including who it would benefit and how, and why this is important:

In first world countries, it seems as if everyone has a smart phone these days. In fact, in the whole world, about 65% of people have phones. So, this project could benefit up to 65% of the people in the world. We constantly drain are phones and are plugging them into chargers to make sure that we don’t run out of battery. There was of course the invention of the charging phone case, which was a pretty impactful idea. However, you still have to charge the phone case. So although it is more convenient, at the end of the day, you still need electricity to charge your phone.

Our idea would be to create a phone case that self-charges through the warmth of your own hand. Currently there is a project that is a coffee mug USB charger. It uses the heat from the mug to create energy, which translates to a USB outlet. Using very similar technology, and using the phone case itself as a converter, we could create a phone case that actually uses the warmth from your hand (aka usage of just holding your phone) to charge your phone case, which in turn charges your phone. This would bypass electricity to charge your phone all together.

  • Rough budget for material, time, space needed to build (no project costs 0$, even if all you bill is your own time/labor. consider the cost of purchasing any materials you use, of paying for skill, research, time, labor etc.)

Researchers/Developers: Obviously this is pretty big task to actually create this technology. If we hired a team of five researchers and developers to work on the project for 6 months at $75 an hour per person, this is the math we would come up with:

$75 per hr X 8hr a day X5 (days a week) X26 (Weeks in half a year) = $78,000 per worker/developer

$78,000 per worker/developer X5 (amount of workers/developers being hired) = $390,000

Work Space:

$1,000 a month for rent X 6 (months) = $6,000

Supplies for prototypes = $10,000

Total Budget: $406,000
