BACKGROUND

I wanted to create an app that allowed users to share tips with each other on how to be more environmentally friendly.  These tips could  range from simple lifestyle changes, to even D.I.Y. projects reusing old materials (clothing, broken mugs, etc).

EXPLANATION

Dwindle is an app focused on allowing users to share tips on reducing (dwindling) their environmental impact.  There is a page for users to add posts too that can be arranged by category as well as searched for.  Each page can be commented on and rated, and users are given the option to bookmark the tip.  If users have something to say that doesn’t deserve it’s own post (isn’t a tip or anything), then there is a social-media-esque section that allows users to post their thoughts, photos, and videos.  These all can be commented on and liked.  Users can follow each other and all of the different posts and thoughts that they make.  Additionally, there is a related news section that pulls articles from environmentally focused websites.  Finally, there is another section that has related websites for users to visit.  Clicking on the links opens the website in the app so that the user does not have to leave the app.

I thought of the app idea myself, and I built it myself.

BUDGET

This version of the app is free.  I used Apply Pie, which allows you to build apps (with limitations) for free.  Making this app using this website maybe took two hours.  I do not want to make money from this app.  If I were to go further in-depth with this project, it would end up costing me between 30 and 50 dollars per month using their services as well as their database.  If I ever choose that option, then I might run ads so that I am not paying just to keep the app going.
