Hacktivism Approach
Create an Approach or ‘mock-up’ for project based on your Intent. You may revise or change your Intent if necessary, though you will need to create a new Intent post to do so. This may be simply copying the original Intent and just making a few changes or a completely new Intent. For a completely new Intent, this can be a rough version to get your new concept across, so you can focus on the Approach. Post any revised intent as “ Intent 1b”
An approach looks like a finished project, but because you cannot navigate or present the project, you can hide those aspects not fully complete.
The project looks complete, but some implementation details may not be fully rendered.
For example: If you plan to create a website, you might use Photoshop to mock up 3-4 key pages, and then show these pages in a slideshow, or as large images in a basic website that allows you to “click” to the other pages. You have not built the entire site, but you have the basic design and content for the key pages, including navigation design, text, images, layout etc..
Another example: if you plan to build a Unity game, you can also show a series of images that show what key game play moments would look like. You would describe the gameplay , the levels, the characters, and setting, and the main goals of the game as well as the winning scenario. You might include Unity screenshots, and samples of the code.
Sample Student Projects:
Bangor Humane Society: Sticker’s to the Streets
You might use many other formats: sculpture, origami, gameboard, video, etc as long as the projects has a conceptual connection to New Media concepts and strategies.
In addition to the “mock-up” include the following :
- Title
- One Sentence summary/abstract
- Visuals: what will the project look like when built…give 2-4 images
- Background: this gives any brief info the viewer needs to better understand the project; e.g. what is the issue you are addressing
- Explanation: while the project should be able to stand on its own, this section allows you to give any brief info for the viewer
- Credits: who was involved, or what sources or inspirations you had for the project. Mention specific classmate feedback, for example.
- Simple budget for estimated cost.
