Bangor Humane Society: Sticker’s to the Streets
Summary: Work with the Bangor Humane Society to create QR code adoption stickers for pets currently in the shelter, as well as a website for people adopting to connect.
Description: My project idea is based on wanting to help the Bangor Humane Society. I’ve been a volunteer at the shelter in past years and have always wanted to help spread the word about adopting cats and dogs. I’d like to create biodegradable stickers that contain an image of a dog or cat that is currently at the animal shelter. They would contain the pets name, the Bangor humane society logo and a QR code that would link the viewer back to the pets page on the Bangor Humane Society website. Each pet on the website gets a general description of their breed, age, and occasionally a small paragraph about them. I think this could be a new and interactive way to get the people of Bangor (and surrounding areas) to interact more readily with the Humane Society as well as get more pets adopted quickly into new homes.
In addition to the stickers, I also thought of creating a small website where sticker users could go and post images of themselves with their adopted pets and write stories about their experiences in adopting. I think this would be a positive way for people who adopt pets to connect on a new level. The website could contain a simple forum where people can post interest in getting together for play dates for their dogs to socialize them more.
The Bangor Humane society has an overabundance of volunteers and has to frequently turn people down who wish to volunteer simply because they cannot handle that many people at once. This could potentially be an opportunity for volunteers to go out into town with dogs and walk them around Bangor and the surrounding towns to get them more acquainted with unknown people as well as getting them out of the kennels. This would provide a better experience for the animals as well as the volunteers.
Another use for the stickers would be for donation’s that the Bangor Humane Society needs. They have an Amazon wishlist that they continually update with items that they need in the shelter.
This project would not only benefit the animals but also the amazing employees and volunteers of the Humane Society.
Materials Needed: Sugar Cane printable stickers that cost 2 cents each. Printer ink about 20$ per cartridge.
Time needed: 1-2 Days to meet with the Bangor Humane Society Staff to discuss how they would like the sticker to look. 4 days to develop and refine basic designs of the stickers and website. 21 days to develop the website. One Month of user testing and further refinement. Based on current standards for payment in graphic design and user experience I would be paying myself about 18.00$ per hour. Totaling the project to about 2196$ upon completion.

Concept:
1. This would count as a many to many interaction because multiple people will likely be using this system to reach many people around the community. This project interacts with the problem of having unadopted pets at the animal shelter and having the human society not be able to reach others.
2. share what was inaccessible
3. My only concern is why use biodegradable sticker? But I’ll talk more about this later.
4. I find this idea to be really engaging, worth while and definitely think that doing something such as this is achievable.
Design:
1 This idea is clearly laid out and seems to have a good amount of thought behind it. It is unique hopefully something that can help make a difference. 2. I think that this would users to greatly gain a lot of knowledge of whats going on at the shelter.
Technical:
1. The tech used in this project is claimed to be fully designed by Ashley which I give her a full thumbs to do. I’m just curious about the bio degradable stickers. Why use this type of sticker?
2. The cost seems to be very reasonable. I can not see you really having any problems there.
Audience:
1. I would think that the audience would be anyone looking for a new pet or just anyone in the community thats interested.
2. I can not see how this problem would not seem attractive to users unless poorly designed.
Creativity:
1. Yes.
2. I have not heard of any other project like this one. It appears to me to be unique.
Concept:
I love this idea. It uses many to many interaction because it allows many people to be a part of setting it up as well as interacting with it. I like the biodegradable sticker idea because it addresses the issue of removing them once the animals are adopted. Rather than having hundreds of stickers that are no longer useful all over Bangor, they will simply dissolve over time. You can continuously add more stickers as needed.
Design:
The design itself is great–I like that instead of simply using a sticker with a code, you will also add the pet’s name and picture. This opens up the audience to people without smartphones. The idea of having volunteers get turned away is an excellent opportunity to create something like this..many people want to help, but there is only so much to be done within the walls of the shelter. This could be a great source of free advertising for a wonderful cause.
Technical:
You already know how much this would cost, which is great, and it seems very reasonable.
Audience:
The audience is anyone who walks by and sees the sticker. Even if people aren’t looking to adopt a pet, chances are they know of someone who is.
Creativity:
This is a very creative idea and I hope that you choose to actually make this project. I think it could really benefit the organization.
Concept-
I think this is a really good idea and i love that you have a good marketing idea for the sugarcane stickers. Well thought out.
Audience-
In reality all humane societies could benefit from this idea. Its a great way to try and connect and animal with a possible owner.
Creativity-
I love the amount of passion put into this project idea. You can tell this is something you care strongly about.
