Hacktivism Intent- Eli Farnham B

This project is to make an interactive VR exhibit to inform and show people how our oceans are being affected by pollution.

I want to make a project that makes people stop and think about the environment. I would address the pollution of this planet by making virtual scenarios that would range from drone videos of the “plastic bag islands” forming in the middle of the ocean to what the sea is going to look like in 25 – 100 years. These videos compiled with tips of how to cut down on our usage of plastic and non recyclable goods could help slow down the damage being done to the ocean.

This method could be used to bring light to the current state of our oceans. People know the ocean is polluted but don’t quite understand how polluted. An interactive Virtual reality scenarios could be a good way to to help educate and shock people into changing their lifestyles. Even people who don’t have direct access to the ocean are putting trash into it and I think it is important to get rid of the disconnect people have to our oceans.

In the exhibit there will be a control system that went along with the goggles. These controls would enable the user to adjust settings and see the outcome. An example of this would be a knob to change the future view if everyone stopped using plastic bags vs if we ignore the problem for 25 more years. The user would interact and set their own future. After interacting with the exhibit there would be tips on how people can lower their impact on the planet.
