One problem we are facing today is how few people vote. Last election, only about 60% of the voting population participated. My original idea was to create a game with a rewards system in which you benefit from voting and taking part in public events. Exactly what kind of a game this would be required more thought.

My idea is to create a campaign simulator. In this game, you would be trying to promote a certain person running for political office. You would have a certain budget and time to do things. It would basically be a time and resources management game. You start with something like $1,000, and have to use fundraisers to raise funds and awareness of the person you are vouching for. The end goal is to get people in a certain area to become interested in your position. Each action you take will affect the other statistics. Rioting, for example, could get you more followers but reduce your reputation. Advertising would decrease funds but increase reputation.

Aside from giving people a virtual reward for voting, this would  get people thinking about politics. My hope is that getting people active in a virtual world will encourage them to be active in the real world.

The picture below shows a basic map and interface. While the map definitely needs more work, I think I have a good start on the interface.

  • I really liked your idea to give people a virtual world to look at the out of their choices. I could see this being used for kids starting to get into the world of politics so that they understand how their choices could impact the country and the world as a whole. One thing I would say is I am not sure how this would get people to the polls. While it certainly would be fun to see how if you change your viewpoint in a political area how that would affect the election and who you would vote for. This would certainly be a many to many kind of platform. You could have people post their elections final results so others can see what other people are doing. While it will bring people more involved with politics by playing a fun game. I just don’t see more of an interest in the going to vote.
