Hacktivism Intent – MeganC
Meme of trump being deported.
This would benefit those who have experienced deportation directly or indirectly by showing them that there are others who believe that deporting people is wrong. This is important because it is raising a conversation around the decisions that Trump makes. It questions whether making a decision based on one sided information is right and if he was in the same situation would he still feel the same way about deportation.
Meme of trump working a desk job that would earn an average salary.
This would benefit those of us who aren’t making millions and billions of dollars but who are making an average salary and trying to live in a society that mostly benefits the top percents. This opens a conversation around what kinds of decisions Trump would make if he had ever experienced being an “average” citizen in the workforce.
Budget is very minimal, theres no monetary cost. The biggest thing to think about is time, It take about 30 minutes to make a meme which really isn’t that much. This project doesn’t take up any physical space but would hopefully make an impact and “take up space” on the internet.

Concept
1. what media is the intent/project? 1-1, 1-many, many-many? explain — This is a many-to-many idea : This is a 1-to-many idea.
2. does the idea enlist any of the New Media Strategies? If so which & how? — This sort of follows the idea of “upstage the man” but it doesn’t take power away from Trump directly, but it does help to shed light on his ill practices.
3. what major issue(s) does the project engage? — This idea attempts to tackle deportation in a way that many people could see it and relate to it (ie, memes)
4. does the concept interest you? — Yes, I think this is simple, easy to carry out, and could potentially catch on with other people, making the idea even stronger.
Design
1. is the design clear and appropriate? — Yes, I think so.
2. does the design invite attention and/or participation? — It could! Other people besides the creator could start making these memes.
Technical
1. what tech is used? is it appropriate? — Photoshop and social media. I believe that’s appropriate.
2. what is the cost? is it affordable for most people? the planet? is it sustainable? — Free for creator and viewers, however it sounds like it would take up a good chunk of time, but the cause is important.
Audience
1. who is the intended audience? — people on social media.
2. how is the project geared to the audience? — in the form of memes, something almost all of us see every day.
3. would the project appeal to or challenge the audience? how/why? — It would appeal to the people who agree and challenge the people who don’t.
Creativity
1. does the idea stem from some personal passion of the creator? — It seems so, the creator is clearly passionate about revealing Trump’s tremendous shortcomings and ill-doings.
2. can you detect the mark of a particular sensibility? — Passion, humor, poking fun at something that is very serious but that humorous side may make it more digestible to people.
Concept
what media is the intent/project? 1-1, 1-many, many-many? explain — Many to many: this is a participatory campaign in which anyone who is interested can contribute their own take on it.
does the idea enlist any of the New Media Strategies? If so which & how? — Yes, using shared communication and creative transformation as a way to amplify individual voices as part of a collective group in the interest of an issue.
what major issue(s) does the project engage? — Ignorance of politicians on the experiences of their constituents.
does the concept interest you? — Yes, it affects most people under a political jurisdiction, I expect, due to the imbalanced likelihood of the inordinately wealthy to be able to get elected (and/or buy their way into office).
Design
is the design clear and appropriate? — Yes, it seems reasonable and effective.
does the design invite attention and/or participation? — Yes, the format appears to be derived from “LOL cat” pictures, which is a familiar and popular format, so familiarity with the format will encourage people to participate in the creation and dissemination of documents in this campaign as well.
Technical
what tech is used? is it appropriate? — Personal computers with the ability to edit pictures: they are fairly accessible; not universally accessible, but at least a significant minority of people would find this campaign accessible and possible to participate in. This seems appropriate for the campaign, as it can have a broad reach even without universal accessibility.
what is the cost? is it affordable for most people? the planet? is it sustainable? — The cost of this campaign would be fairly small, in the scope of the general production of digital data.
Audience
who is the intended audience? — People who should be angry, but aren’t.
how is the project geared to the audience? — By using simple, effective, and already tested communication strategies, this proposal should appeal to a wide range of potential people to engage with it.
would the project appeal to or challenge the audience? how/why? — It would appeal to people through the ability to use creativity to contribute to and expand on the ideas of the campaign, and challenge them to bring their own perspectives to it. That is because it uses a format that is known for being relatively low-barrier-to-entry to participate in and can give people a way to voice the problems that they care about, at the same time as helping shape what they care about by drawing their attention to significant societal challenges.
Creativity
does the idea stem from some personal passion of the creator? — Yes, it sounds like it does.
can you detect the mark of a particular sensibility? — Not hugely on the proposal as a whole (certainly on the specific works provided as examples, though), but I do not think that is a bad thing: the proposal has a type of simplicity and universality that allows many people to be included in it.

1. Does the idea stem from some personal passion of the creator? This idea seems to stem from the personal passion of the creator, and their problems with the current president, Donald Trump.
2. Can you detect the mark of a particular sensibility? Yes, it shows the creators political sense and how they feel about the current events taking place in America. It also shows the creators humorous and modern approach at a problem.
Good use of clear political message, simps technology, and clear message. What would make this stronger:
1) since it is simple, many more examples–like 5-6
2) more appealing message…some people feel deporting will help save their jobs and agree with Trump; how can your message appeal to those folks too?
3) Create a crowdsourcing option–you could create a quick WIX website, add your sample, include simple instructions for making more, add list of free images to use, and a way to both upload to site and send out to social media campaign; add a twitter/instagram hashtag….
