Piano Mapping
Piano Mapping is a new innovative way to learn how to play the keys, with a follow along projection mapping you’ll be a pro in days.
I have had a passion for music since I picked up my first recorder in fourth grade. I am self taught on many instruments including trombone, bassoon, cello and piano. Although my family always supported me throughout my musical endeavors, affording lessons for each instrument I played was out of the question. You can find hundreds of instrumental lessons on websites such as youtube, but they’re not typically as effective as a sit down lesson.
My idea, Piano Mapping, would give students the opportunity to learn piano private lesson style without the private lesson cost. Piano Mapping would use projection mapping to help students learn how to play thousands of different songs as well as piano fingering techniques by projecting where and when students should place their fingers on the keys. As you can see in the visuals below, this application would allow students a new innovative way of learning Piano in the comfort of their own home.

This seems like something I would definitely pick up and would love to see this be a thing. I too know how to play the trombone but would also like to learn other instruments as well. I had done something similar to help myself play something similar to a piano in NMD 102 by making an app that turns my computer into an instrument and allows the recording. Not as good as the actual piano. Can’t wait to see more on this.
Concept:
If you were to actually build this I would definitely use it! I have been playing the guitar since I was little and I know how expensive lessons can be. I think projecting a keyboard is a great idea, since the instrument itself can be so expensive as well. I have tried to teach myself piano but I agree that the online lessons are much less affective than private lessons.
Design:
I think the design is straightforward and thorough. I liked that you divided up the tutorials by genre, and the mockup that you created is very easy to follow.
Technical:
I have never worked with this technology so I don’t know how much it would cost, but it seems like once you have it up and running it wouldn’t really cost anything to run.
Audience:
I think anyone could benefit from this. Learning an instrument is such a great experience, I think any age group would appreciate this.
Creativity:
I love this idea and think it is very unique!
Concept-
I feel like many people could benefit from this app. Such a great idea for kids and parents so the kid can be self dependent and the parents can save money.
Technical-
As new songs continue to come out will the app get updated with new songs?
Also i feel that an app this useful shouldn’t be free, even just charging 99 cents is extremely cheap compared to private lessons and that way you could make a profit from your app.
