Hacktivism Intent – SamW
ClassChat
For my hacktivism intent, I would like to create a social media app for students who are in the same class together. The app will be called ClassChat. The idea behind it is that students will be able to create a profile including profile pictures and their class schedule. Each class will have a page where students who are in the class can ask each other questions and discuss the class and class materials.
This app would be designed to aid students in their studies and create a place for questions to be answered between students. This is aimed to help those students who are too shy to ask questions in class as well as help students get to know each other. For each class there will be a large central page where everyone can post as well as private messaging. The app will be for students to talk not for teachers to assign work or show the course material like blackboard does.
I think this is important because I think that many students often have questions that don’t get answered because of the teachers speed of teaching or because of the size of the lecture or for other reasons. This app will allow these students to get their questions answered without having to interrupt the class and everyones learning.
Budget:
App Coding: 300$
Iphone/Smartphone: 500

Concept
This social media app is good idea to put in universities because it would help students keep track of all the schoolwork and have better organizational skills.I would also be interested to see the different features that could be put into an app like that.
Design
The design is clear and gives a good representation of what the app would like when in use and some of the different features it has.
Technical
I think using the app on a cellphone or any other digital device is a good idea because we use them every day and have many different apps on them as well.I believe it would be an affordable app and it could possibly be free for university students or other school students.
Audience
This app would be intended for the students attending school and possibly teachers to keep track of what a student does on the app in class like the answers to any question they might have on a specific subject being discussed in the classroom.
Creativity
This is a very sensible app because it would benefit everyone using it and help student who used to struggle in school. This person wants their idea to work so we as students will have a more effective way to focus in school.
Concept
I would imagine this would, work like a WordPress website, so when it comes to having a platform to execute this you don’t have any problems with that.
Design
The only issue I see is that you’ll have certain people who won’t participate. So my question would be how would you make this website so that a majority of people will us it?
Technical
Will it be functioning as a blog, or something else?
Audience
I’m guessing this is geared towards high school and college students, which is a good audience.
Concept
I thought that this is a fun and cool idea for college students. By providing a website or an app that helps students stay in contact with students and professors in other classes would make a lot of classes easier. I am usually shy in class, and sometimes are afraid to ask questions in front of the class, so I believe that this app would be help me personally and solve the main issue that you are going for.
Design
The design element for this project is clear. I can tell clearly by the picture on how you want your app to look.
Technical
Would it be for as a chatroom or more as a blog?
I didn’t see the cost or the sustainability, how much would this all cost in the end?
Audience
I can tell clearly that the audience for this project would be college students. This could work with high school students as well, I think that this will benefit anyone that is going to any type of school.
Creativity
I think your project is creative. In our generation everything seems to be going into technology now and this would be an easier way to contact professors and classmates.
This is a many-to-many strategy that I think is a brilliant idea. I love the idea of using social media to get students in the same class to ask and answer questions that they have between each other. Sometimes it can be kind of annoying when a class goes on for a lot longer than it normally would just because some students have a ton of questions about things that they don’t understand and end up asking the professor.
Speaking from experience, asking fellow classmates can be a little bit difficult if you don’t know any other students in a class and are often too shy to ask, and even if not sometimes asking other classmates that are just sitting nearby isn’t always the easiest way to find out answers to those questions either if the classmates sitting nearby are just as lost as you are. Other times it can also be hard to ask questions because the professor just gives students so much information at once that it can feel overwhelming. I like that this app would make it possible for students to ask and answer questions about the class back and forth to each other without having to whisper to each other and making it harder for other students to hear what the professor is saying.
A interface like this seems like a great way to bring classmates together in a more casual chatroom. When teachers are monitoring chatrooms and class websites and comments, I feel less likely to talk to my peers. I feel like I have to be very formal. But a place for just the students to interact and talk about the class seems much more low key, and it something I would be interested in. It’s a great many to many interaction, and seems very do-able.
Overall I like the concept as it is something different from various similar apps such as Slack or YikYak by making something that is organized yet it doesn’t have moderation. This is a hybrid between the two where people can chat about various topics and that is what makes this unique. Overall the design of the app is simple and I think it should stay that way, also the behind the scenes is quite simple you could use a simple PHP mySQL database to store comments and constantly refresh, I think that if you look at apps aforementioned and pulled some features from each it would be a great product in the end.
