Intent 2 – Self Reflection Simulation – Lucas Adair

Self Reflection – Intent 2 – Lucas Adair

For my Self Reflection piece I would like to create a VR simulation which can invoke calming stimulus in the user through heartrate visualization, voice communication and calming sounds/noises. This will be the intent/approach to a later version of the project which will use an EEG and brain entrainment to invoke more direct responses in the brain to help the user calm down or possibly more!

How is this possible? The brain has a natural “frequency following” response! Which means that our brain frequency is almost “hackable” and is influenced by other frequencies around us. This is what causes people with epilepsy to have seizures when exposed to certain lights, their brains frequency follow  response aligns with the frequency of flashing lights and triggers the seizure. My goal is to use the same response to invoke “calm” frequencies when the user is stressed or anxious. This requires taking a base threshold when the user is calm using an EEG. Now that we can see what the user’s frequency is when they are calm we can recreate light/sound triggers at those frequencies to  invoke them when they are stressed!
