Intent 3 TannerM
It won’t let me upload new images, so just picture that there’s an image of the trees from the campus’s mall is here.
Concept:
The number of trees being wasted by unused papers in the library, would equal the number of dead trees one the campus’s mall.
Synopsis:
I don’t know about you, but when I go to the library to print an assignment I usually end up having to print my assignment more than once because for some reason it comes out differently than what I put in. However, I’m not the only one who seems to be doing this because I notice tons of black or half printed papers in the recycling along with mine. I’ve been at the university for two years now and I haven’t seen any improvement on how much paper seems to be wasted. In my opinion I feel it’s the printers and the clunky way you have to print stuff of by using at least two computers. Not to mention that it can take up to ten minutes just to print off one assignment. Bottom line I feel like the library needs a better print systems or at the very least new printers, and this is where the project comes into play.
The whole point of this project would be to show the whole university how much paper is being unnecessarily thrown out over the course of a semester. For a whole semester collect all of the paper in the library that gets thrown into the recycling, add it all up, and then cover trees on campus’s mall in black trash bags equal to the number of trees being wasted by the amount of paper that gets recycled. Not only would it grab the attention of students and those walking by them everyday, but hopefully it would get the attention of faculty members that would have the power to change the printer system in the library. It could lead to a big change printing in the library. Now I know students can just bring their own printers from home so that they can print in their rooms, but that just means the student has to worry about taking care of more things. Shouldn’t the university be able to proudly provide all the resources a student could need in a effective manner? The answer is yes, and by improving the printing process in the library is one step closer to making that happen.
Budget:
Honestly the budget would be pretty low for this project.
Buying a bunch of black trash: let’s say five which would equal about $50
Permission to collect and count the paper from the library.
