Critart
Throughout my years as a growing artist I feel that as my skills improve, the criticism I receive gets less praise. As a child, anything I passed in as art would get praise and treated as if it was made by the gods themselves. Disproportionate, over saturated, flat, no unity whatsoever, and yet my childhood scribbles could gain me an A+. Now as a college student, I look back on old work that I was proud of and that looked good, but see the major flaws they have.
My approach is a gallery website (Critart) of my own art, dating back to as far as middle school up until now in college. The gallery not only showcases my work, but depending on what category they’re, they will include my own self criticism, while giving types of how my past flaws could be fixed with my new found knowledge and skills. Categories will range from focusing on anatomy, to comparing drawing programs to other programs. The hope would be to help other people learn my mistakes, and give tips that would have been helpful to me at the time. It’s good to look back at how much you’ve grown as an artist, creator, or whatever your focus is. Although we may cringe at our old pieces, we’ve learned a lot from them, and others can learn from us too, and see that practice really makes perfect. This site could be used by various users, and be an open community for catalog art, and help aspiring artist.
Navigation would consist of a category bar, and within each category is featured art. When an image is clicked, the image blows up to a larger size, paired with a description pertaining to the category. It’s up to the user to write up their own descriptions, and it is encouraged to have a little laugh out of their old art, and enjoy the innocent mistakes of a growing artist cluelessness.
Budget for this would consist of buying the website, along with hiring help to secure it, and create a functioning webpage. I would be part of the design, which would take up my personal time to make mock ups and layouts. Fortunately I’ve already made the artwork, and have it posted on an existing artsite.
