Rollin in Dirt
Customize and unroll your own personal garden that is both stylish, and easy to install.
Rollin in Dirt is an easier way to create a garden of various patterns, sizes, and plant types to fit your lifestyle. Some people would love to have a nice flower bed in their front yard, or even a cute little box within their home or apartment. However, not everyone is a gardening expert, or have the time to get down in the dirt to plant flowers. Rollin in Dirt is as simple as rolling out pre grown grass roles, and can be customized to show an array of patterns after the growing process. All the buyer has to do is choose the size and dimensions of the role, what plants they wants, and the pattern. They can be as vast as a front yard, or even just a single plant pot. The idea is for the user to pick out what plants work best for them, so they the plants can thrive, and the grower can have the satisfaction of not killing their plants for not knowing how to care for them.
The users will also be given tips of how to care for their plants, as well as knowledge about the plants before hand, such as the preferred temp, amount of water needed, and sunlight. The process of choosing the patterns and flowers will happen online, and be shipped to the users home. This process is meant to be as easy as possible. The end goal of the idea is to bring plants back into all homes, in a safe, and artistic way.
Costs:
Rolls for seed starters: $20 (for 18ftx39in)
Seeds: $5 per (5 seeds, plant depending)
Website development: 10 solid hours just to create, plus costs of a server, and expenses to hired help
Labor: 4x4ft square, estimate 2 hours? (would vary on size of role)
Shipping $$ (trying to keep local)

I like your project but I’m slightly confused about it! I think a clearer explanation may be needed. Do the rolls come with flowers already planted in the sod? If so, how do you keep from crushing them? Is it just designs cut into sod? How will you keep people from letting their plants die? Will each plant ship with care instructions, or will you simply ship more resilient plants? How will the sod be contained within one’s home or apartment? Will there be some kind of wall or pot around it? How will you distribute these things? Will there be a website where people can come and make their custom-order?
Response: Feedback #2
Concept
1. This project uses one to many, because it is a product designed by one person that can be distributed to many people.
2. It uses technology in the building of the product. It also uses visual design and media in the ordering process, since customers can specify things like size, types of plants, and colors.
3. I think this project addresses a few different issues, one being that humans are becoming more and more detached from nature. People who live in crowded areas that are unable to plant a garden would use this product to reconnect with that natural world. It also involves education, because many people have no gardening experience. The product comes with detailed instructions for keeping the plant alive.
4. I think this is very creative, and I would definitely buy something like this. I think that individuals growing plant life in crowded places can have a very powerful effect on the individual as well as the community.
Design
1. The design seems straightforward, but I don’t know specifically how it works. I think the next step could be explaining how you will build these.
2. The design definitely gets people involved, which is what I like most about the design. It gets people to grow something beautiful, as well as learn about plant life.
Technical
1. The tech used here is very appropriate for an eco project. It doesn’t really use new technology, but uses natural resources in a new way.
2. You seem to have a good idea of what it will cost. I think this is definitely affordable and doable. The most expensive thing sounds like the development of the website (unless you do it yourself). I think the average person could afford to buy this.
Audience
1. The audience is anyone who wants to reconnect with nature in a small but effective way. Many people living in apartments or dorms would probably be interested in this.
2. It is geared toward people with little background knowledge in gardening, which is why it includes instructions.
3. I think this would challenge the audience to learn something new, but it would feel rewarding to see something grow in their living space.
Creativity
1. It seems like you are passionate about using ecosystems in an artistic way. Rather than seeing gardening as a chore, your project makes gardening a decorative aspect to one’s apartment.
2. I can see the creativity in this project coming from an interest in art and interior design.
