An autobiography a piece created about a person created by that person. Autobotography is not a real word, but we can guess that the term means a digital version of self. Whether that be the creator or maybe someone unrelated to the creator. The two autobotographical pieces I chose to review were “Nobody here” and “Modern Living & Neurotica”
In Nobody here we see a man typing on a computer about his life. This animation is really an autobotography about a man creating an autobotography. Throughout the website, we get to see the many thoughts that go through this mans head about different random subjects. This is interesting to be viewed at as an autobotographical piece because this many never talks about himself, just the things around him. This is something I agree with, that many times we see ourselves as who we are on the inside but to everyone else that doesn’t matter, we as humans associate other humans with things they surround themselves with, like their clothes, or hair or car. This also ties into what we view as American culture now, the more money or things a person has makes them into a more interesting person, this is why we as Americans view the idea of celebrity so highly.
In Modern Living and Neurotica, the idea of autobotography starts to get a little lost in translation. Instead of expressing things that he has acquired that express his idea of self, he shows many obscure thoughts and ideas in which he either believes or has been taught in his life. This piece I believe to be the autobiography of many people rather than one. I think this is more of a view on society rather than a view on himself. I think whoever is making this is saying that we are teaching kids messed up ways and it is making them grow into horrible people.
I think the idea of an autobotography is actually not autobiographical. In the examples we see I view it from the third person as a reflection of themselves. What we think of ourselves is different from the person we actually are.
