When reading the What is New Media? article it brought me back to the question that I was asked in another new media class along with the other students. New media was something that had been used for most of my life and I grew up around it but I never thought of what it actually is. It has become a new form of media that people can experience each day and is continuously improving to reach more people. The reason for this is because it has been given new mediums for people to view it on. Each medium gives people the opportunity to make the media shown as a chance to be more interactive.
People are able to see the content that others are seeing and can control what they see like using a remote to control for which channel you pick on tv or on Netflix where you can choose what movie you would prefer to see. Social media is another example because on websites like twitter where you can see anyones messages to you and also different post they make to grab peoples attention if they have a common interest in it. Also new media is a great for wide range communication because people can talk to each other over larger thanks to email and other social media sites.
Another thing that I found interesting when reading an article called New Media Strategies was when the Yes Men were mentioned in it. I learned from them that new media can be used to influence decisions made for the public by different groups. New media can be used to make a decision made by a powerful organization change by taking power from them and they can see that that another decision may be required to benefit the public because they see many others in agreement with the people who are imitating their group to get them to see the error of their ways. I think using new media as the yes men did helped a lot of people and if I chose to do something similar better outcomes would emerge from it and would benefit more people.

Wow! Pretty interesting personal definition of New Media. It has a lot of punch to it!
It’s inspiring to see you want to use the power of new technologies like New Media to help people. Does there have to be a conflict between using tech to make money vs using tech to help people? Why is there a conflict about that today? How can we intervene in ways that help?
