What I found interesting in Yes Men is how they were able to use media to enforce what they were doing. Most of the “activism” I see on the internet (primarily Facebook) is just angry rants they may or may not make a valid point. Pointless or not, they are not going to change anything. But the way the Yes Men used it actually worked. I am silent when it comes to political discussions on Facebook because I know nothing I say can make a difference, but if used correctly, new media can actually lead to change.

In Hacktivism, I found the motivation for people’s interest in computers very interesting. A computer in a home was little more than a hobby when the idea first arose, but now, computers are an essential part of professional activity around the globe. When a new technology comes around, it doesn’t have to have a practical purpose right away. Using something new just for fun is a constructive way to learn about future technology.
