Describe the hallmark characteristics of New Media. How do you think this changes who has the power to “define reality” via the media? Give an example of where this might be the case. (2-3 paragraphs)
I have a Computer science degree and have been following media sense I was a little child I am very analytical and consider my self an Entrapunur . It has always fascinated me. Something about the unknown and all the possibilities that came with a machine thrilled me too end. My definition of the hallmark characteristics of New media are that is is ever evolving. It has become an integrated part of our lives. The technology continues to change and therefor continues to change our society.
From the reading a Hallmark is described as several things that Each person has equal control of content conveyed. That the content can be individualized to each persons special needs or ideas. Some other hallmarks when it comes to Mass Medium are that the same content be sent out to all people, and that the one who sent it has absolute control over the content. With all of this in mind it is a Unique individualized information that can be delivered or shown to any amount of people, and that everyone involved shares equal control over the information.
A good example about how this has integrated into our society is for example email. The person can send out mail to everyone at the same time having it be available to everyone . Technology is pretty much always with us weather its our cars, our phones, or pretty much anything that we take for granted. Even if its not technology their are multiple things we have today that we would not have due to technology.

I want to address the issues of sexism, I want to break down the Gender Roles and the expectations that come along with Gender. From what I understand a huge part about how we turn out is from the way we are raised. I think we should encourage people toot frown upon boys playing with girl toys or girls playing with Trucks. I think we should encourage men to be more open about their feelings. We should break down the expectations about how one must dress.
The App would give ideas/ suggestions to raising your child in am environment that includes not only Female but Male aspects to be incorporated into their lives. It would also be a place that people could have chat room to perhaps talk to each other to find out what worked and what didn’t , and to also provide other options and ideas. It could also be a place for people to meet up who feel the same way they do . But also to perhaps start projects of their own in the community that could have the society become more accepting of sexes. The App would allow people to be hidden if they so chose to be. What would keep people coming back is that people would incorporate these ideals into their lives and then post this on the app to show that they are living it. This app would sort of follow the same guidelines as the app about a world with no oil. I want people to feel connected to the app and to each other.By having multiple people interacting and sharing their ideas and their own life examples about how they would live in a world without Sex Roles this would be a great Example of Crowd Sourcing . The target audience would be pretty much everyone however I feel like that people who are on the LGBTQ . ect spectrum, that it would hit home order for them to want to be active in this community .
Ian Larson wanted to help preserve the Passamaquoddy language from extinction.
Solution A Create a taskforce from a select group of Native American language experts, and ask them to write down a dictionary of words and their definitions. Enter these definitions into a database and build a Web site that allows anyone to search for terms and hear their pronunciation. Hire a high-profile Web designer and marketing firm to ensure that as many people as possible learn about this resource.
I would have to chose solution A because Solution B is more about preserving the Culture which is admirable however that does not really address the Language issue , I feel like Solution A would be deeper and provide more understand to people.

Evan Habeeb wanted to make people aware of the beauty of abandoned buildings.
Solution B Build a Web site that allows adventurers to print stickers they can leave behind in abandoned buildings they explore. Create the stickers so they can be scanned by a mobile phone to reveal a Web site built to feature photographs taken by those explorers.
I would chose Solution B because a Website is going to reach allot more people than a Movie will. Also it will be more fun and get others involved into participating .

Ryan Schaller and Jason Walker wanted to help people understand the many layers required to create a computer-animated film, including wireframe, textures, and light effects. As a case study, they created an animation depicting a cartoon archeologist digging for ancient artifacts.
Solution B Create an iPad application that documents each stage of the animation process, using stills from the archeologist film as illustrations. Explain techniques such as ray tracing, motion capture, and morphing. Include links to companies that create animation software such as Autodesk.
While Solution A sounds like allot of fun that seems similar . You also want something that is going to reach the most people, and an app would do that. It would also promote others to possibly get into the field and create positive Rep for the Companies displayed and the person or groups involved with wanting this app, it would also be a great way to raise money off of adds that you can have on the App.

Danielle Gagner wanted to renovate the waterfall fountain under the skylight in the middle of the University Union, which had fallen into disrepair.
Solution B Use Google Image Search to download photographs of natural bodies of water such as streams, rivers, and the ocean. Combine these with nature footage from sources like National Geographic and the Discovery Channel to create a multichannel video installation that projects images of flowing water and rippling waves onto the fountain, which has been covered with theatrical screening. Supplement the moving images with the sound of a babbling brook emanating from surround-sound speakers mounted on the ceiling.
This question is kinda confusing, it sounds more like an action than a question. I would have to go with Solution B, I feel like it would reach more people.

THE OCEANS ARE DYING
How can you stimulate students to learn more about the oceans?
Example: Alex Lessard and Greg Jones, ROV Labs.
I would say in order to get the students more involved the College should have more classes that dive deeper into the Oceans. Make it so that student can go down that path if they chose to. However at the same time you will need to entice people to try it out and see what exactly are people interested to learn and to see what is required for the actual degree. The best way to get student more interactive is to also make videos possibly by other professors in the field or by Labs to promote what exactly they do in terms of the oceans and their part in it. I feel like its important to bring student into better awareness, but why stop their it should be more of a public avenue. Oceans can improve if humans change their ways and find alternative methods to dumping wast. However the difference of a hand full of people is not really going to make a difference. That it why it is important to try and get more and more people involved. The more people the more companies that are involved in the restoration of the ocean the bigger impact it will have on the result of everyones efforts .
Another option to bring awareness to students and to just society in general would to try to get fundraising from multiple companies that work on the ocean, to try to sent up interviews and meetings to perhaps talk about their point of views and to see what they do, to find out their techniques. Also you could spin it off at these companies that you are working on creating a pro clean ocean and that you would like to add their company into the video which would give them good Rep. the sad thing in life is that people don’t really do anything for free, when every somebody does something it usually comes at a price of some kind so talking from a business prospective I would say that you need to offer something in return.
I honestly believe that by going down this avenue that we can start to make a huge change that could one day effect society and the oceans as a hole.
How does media oppress people in this article, and how does Boal try to give that power back to people? How does he use humor to do this? (2-3 paragraphs)
How can New Media accomplish similar goal? give a few examples. You can add projects we review in class, but you might want to start by trying to think of some yourself. (2 paragraphs)
People get oppressed all the time however in this article the Maine reason that they are being oppressed is because of basically the government people in Power or high positions that were taking advantage of others.
Goal is Unique wear he basically allows people to chose their own path, their could be many different ending however he lets them chose.I think that this is the best way to describe how he gives the power back because what is more powerful than the power of choice.

It’s important to distinguish the traits of mass media (one source controls large audiences, 1-many), from new media where many sources communicate with many audiences (many-many). It wasn’t clear to e that you understood how these are different of what impact that has on humans and society.
Your Ocean example iis interesting, but can you link your ideas to specific new media tactics?
Boal’s Theater for the oppressed uses theater to re-empower people who have been empowered by poverty, oppression, injustice. It gives them a way to notice their opposeeion and practice fighting back, so they can then do so in real life.
