Response 2- AlyssaD

Reading some of the New Media solutions were really fun to read. It is always interesting to learn what other students come up with in certain situations and to connect it with New Media. One of the ones that I found interesting and thought they had really good point was the problem “Neglected Ruins” By Evan Habeeb. He wanted to make people aware of the beauty behind of the abandoned buildings.

I think the best solution to this problem would be to build the website that allows people to see photos of these abandoned buildings. Also to see the history part behind these buildings and what happened to them to become abandoned. I thought this was a really cool way to get peoples attention about these buildings.

Taking this information and these strategies, I came up with different types of problems around the University and came up with my own personal strategies to fix them. There are a bunch of problems around the University such as parking, not enough places to eat, street lights etc. To fix these issues on our campus to make this University better is that I want to create a website where all the students here can comment issues on this website and have people come together to fix it and make it happen. The website is going to have photos of the issues around the University and students will be able to comment there thoughts and see if we can make these changes happen. I believe this is a fun and playful way to handle these issues and if enough students are willing to be on this website this will create attention on these issues. This website will benefit the students and the rest of the University.

  • I really enjoy the art of abandoned buildings and something I’ve always wanted to get into is urban exploration. This idea bringing out the beauty of these buildings on a website is a great idea, allowing people to safely ‘explore’ some of these buildings, without breaking the law and other complications.

I can see there being a campus complaint site working as well, though I guess apps such as YikYak and similar apps would work as well.
