Response 2—EvanL

If media shape us, then what shape do we see through the media? It depends on the resolution of your screen.

Pick 2 autobiography projects and review thoroughly. How does each create a new and strange mirror on what it means to be human?

JenniCAM Review: This Is an emencly autobiographical piece. Jenni took her webcam and streamed live to her sight. And in researching her project I found that the image was updated every 15 sec witch to makes it, even more, a reflection of current life with social media. Everyone is on social media all the time but not always sharing the intimate things. At its peak jennicam.org got seven million hits per day witch in 1996 is pretty amazing to me. To me, it is almost an indicator of how the next 20 years will go, into the realm of reality tv obsessive use of social media. But to me, this project stands out as an autobiography in the fact her life was played out in front of 7million people daily. Almost like a daily diary that the whole world can open and read.

Life Sharing:

Eva and Franco Mattes made the content of their computer open to the internet to explore the hard drive emails web searches and so on. To me, this is one of the ultimate autobiographies. I think this because I put myself in this situation if someone were to do that to me with the mac book I type this on you could probably assume 90% of my life. If I was to open my computer up to them, you would be able to figure out everything. My taste in music photography and food. My contacts and texts even things I have purchased all through my mac. So the fact they really did it is amazing, I love this one.

What kind of self is possible, or reflected, or satirized, or created via the new technologies?

It depends on what you are looking at. To me a mac with all your data web searches everything is pretty damn near who you truly are. If you don’t agree talk to me about it in class ill make some good points.

What kind is society is created by the proliferation of these new selves?

Again to me Its the self you are looking at. if you are talking a micro self-derived from a single web page I could be anything I wanted to me and no one would know if I was or wasn’t what I say I am. So in a micro scale, It is a society of truth stretchers and fibbers not afraid of consequences.
