Response 2—FrankS

A big problem that many people face is not being able to trust what they hear on the news. There are many bias news companies that have their own agenda and only show news based on their own opinions. As a hacktivist I would create a fake website that displays news from more reliable unbiased news companies. This way people would think that this site is linked to a real news network that they would usually use but in reality is a blend of other less bias news. I would also add a comment section to see if people would change their viewpoints because the news company changed their stance. This would be an interesting thing to learn because many people only get their information from one place. This would be called media jacking. Another idea based off of this would be to create a hyperlink that says that it is linked to something from a bias news network and redirect the user to another site that is not bias. I would post these fake hyperlinks in multiple social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Lastly, on the actual site of the bias news network I would access the website and fact check the information that is displayed. This would allow people to see the true numbers on the cost of certain governmental projects and other things that are trying to be suppressed and are false.

Going along with the issue of bias news networks I would create a site that had topics of current events that might be altered and should be fact checked along with info graphics on these issues that gave the whole story based on research and information gathered from multiple sources. This would be a form of countering the news networks in giving the whole story to the people. I would post the link to this site in the comment sections of different news sites that had bias information. This site could also have altered images that the typical news stations produce to better suit the truth of the issue. For example say a news article came out giving false statistics about the Dakota pipeline, I would take the photo posted with that article and turn it into something that better suites the facts.

The use of inflatables is a good way to get people’s attention and spread awareness about certain issues. A way to get people to become more serious about climate change would be to create a protest where inflatable trees and other natural plants would replace real natural wildlife. This kind of protest could be conducted at a public park in the middle of a city where pollution is most common. This would be a type of parody where the protestors would pretend like the inflatables where real plants because in the future there are no more real plants. This would obviously be ridiculous but it could help people realize that if we don’t start changing how we control pollution than the environment will keep on suffering.
