One of the biggest problems that our society is facing, is the lack of interest in politics and the workings in our society as a whole. Just during the 2017 presidential election, there were lowered voter rates and a general atmosphere among the population not voting in the essence saying that, “my vote doesn’t matter”. This in itself is one of the most depressing sentiments ever to be uttered. Regardless of political affiliation or desire, voting is one of the most important civil actions that can be taken as an American citizen. This action of democracy plays an important role, not only in an individuals personal future, but the future of our children and grandchildren who will eventually inhabit this world. By not voting, it shows an inherent disregard for the people of the future. This will never change unless there is a significant movement towards changing the attitude towards political involvement.
One solution would be to motivate young, knowledgeable people to care about politics and their children future. To cater towards the millennial generation of up and coming voters, my idea is to create and app that helps voters get more involved in politics. This app would cater primarily towards national elections, but also be implementable in more localized elections.
Generally, the voters choose between two candidates and choose the candidate that caters more towards their personal interests. However, the major issues often overlook the important but less looked at issues that both candidates make decisions on. This multi-partisan app would contain information ranging from a variety of issues, that are comparable and supported by factual evidence. This way, users can compare the candidates on important factual basis rather than speculation, ultimately helping voters decide on the candidate that fits their interests, hopefully motivation to take the time and vote for their chosen candidate.
