Response 2 — MatthewB SamW ColeT

Whilst brainstorming in lab for this response something that immediately came to mind, and something that I have been thinking of a lot recently is how wasteful of a society the United states as a whole is when it comes to food.  In turn something that angers me as a human is how some societies and countries around the world are unable to properly nourish and feed all of its inhabitants. World hunger is a huge elephant in the room that many simply avoid, as many haven’t had to witness something as gross and negligent as it is in first hand.

To fix this, well more realistically to help start a discussion, I came up with several new media strategies and furthermore how we can implement them to possibly benefit those who desperately need help. We need to Share what is otherwise inaccessible. To do this we need to show how much food we as a population of nearly 320 million people, and perhaps we could show just how many families this could feed over time. We can combine this with communications media this way we are able to reach a large audience all while sharing information swiftly.

If we wanted to do something more drastic, you could always follow suit of the “Yes Men” and upstage the man, or do as they did, though one should expect some sort of legal trouble and create a media ‘hoax’ stating drastic changes to how our food system would work and how we could cut down on waste and perhaps donate a fair portion of food to those in need domestic and international. To do so we would need to mobilize people to spread the word either way, something that bothers me is seeing people throw out food that would literally save peoples lives, instead it ends up in the garbage, and further rotting in landfills.
