Bookstore Buyback Bologna

The Maine bookstore is a place to find overpriced clothes and school supplies, along with textbooks and rentals. Anyone who has ever gone to the textbook buyback at the end of each semester knows that the bookstore likes to rip students off of their money. Books that were purchased for $100, could be bought back for as little as ¢14. The different in price can be ridiculous for some, and is very frustrating to students who are desprate for money.

My team has come up with the “yes man” type of approach, which is to promote the bookstores “new! 50% buyback guarantee!” This fake promotion would promise students that the bookstore will buyback their books for no less than 50% of the original price they bought it for.

A few strategies we had involved getting access to the umaine social media, such as the Facebook page, email system, websites, bookstore site, and make fake ads and notices about the 50% buyback for everyone to see via technology. This would be more of a one to many to many approach.

Other strategies we came up with that involve more hands of work would be setting up a sign outside the bookstore, putting up flyers on bulletins and on cars (because thats always annoying *cough* OHOP) and to make it official, we’d write it in chalk on the walkways.

One approach is much more technical, and could get us is much more trouble than the other, but I think it would defiantly cause a great shock factor for both the bookstore and students. All this would hopefully make the bookstore aware of how much student really hate the buy books and how much we feel scammed out of money.
