Nobody Here

Nobody here is a website that allows people to speak what’s really going on in their mind and have different takes on how our society functions. This technology is allowing us to take the wool from our eyes and see ourselves for who we really are. The very poor do have access to this.

“Eating” – This page is very powerful. You see a box with a bunch of fish in it that travel towards your mouse when you move your mouse into the box. Words then appear on the screen saying, “Demand more, take more” and they are talking about the fish, and how greedy they are in eating. This is actually making a point about our society and how we function. Often times we don’t acknowledge the fact that we take, take, take. We mass-produce meats with GMO’s, steroids, and chemicals and we kill millions of animals. At one point, we had a reason for killing animals. Eating. Now, big companies are just trying to mass-farm and we have way more meat than we need. In fact, we are driving species extinct. It’s interesting to see what a profound impact we are having on our animal populations, and how badly we are treating nature. I thought this was a very thoughtful post. “Grind” – This page was pretty interesting. You see a set of teeth with words that say “I’m fine”, and the teeth allow you to grab them and move them back and forth, grinding the teeth. The interesting thing is that the words that appear say “Great, Perfect”. I believe this says a lot about how our society functions, many people act as if they have it all together but they really don’t, say they’re fine, and grind their teeth in agony on the inside. This is kind of showing us that humans are people who lie a lot about how we’re doing. There is no new tech here. I think it’s very interesting to see

Life Sharing

Life sharing is an insane piece of art that allowed numerous people to share EVERYTHING going on in their home computer for three years. I would never be able to do that. The point was to make a privacy statement, and to show people that we have a lot to hide. Honestly if I were them, I would be scared of stalkers and creeps looking at my files but I think that is the point. They showed their bank statements, private emails, etc. If I were emailing the person who shared their personal emails, I would be pretty mad. This new tech, made before social media, was to share. If that wasn’t enough, they started revealing their exact location to everyone on the site. I think the new self they are portraying is a self in which isn’t afraid of sharing their personal information. To delete privacy, basically. This kind of society would have to be a very trustworthy one, because of all of the people who like to stalk, murder, steal, and snoop. I think race, gender, and class definitely contributes to this new kind of society. If everyone shared their computers, emails, pictures, and gps… I think we would have a really interesting new kind of knowledge about how each class system functions and works. We would be able to see the differences in language, content, and privacy of each different societal system such as race, or gender. I’m sure it would make some pretty cool research.

  • Ryan–you make several good points here, particularly in your observations on the “Eating” page of Nobody Here. But then there are statements like this one: “I think race, gender, and class definitely contributes to this new kind of society.” They contribute? This statement doesn’t really say anything, and definitely requires more elaboration.
