The two projects I chose to look at where MaybeCam, and JenniCam.

MaybeCam was a project that used a shirt with writing and a piece of dark acrylic to mimic the appearance of a tinted cover of a security camera. The text also made it appear that you might have a real camera filming. This project made people make  reflected self. In the sense that people behave better when they think they might be on camera, even if they aren’t doing anything wrong. This meant that people were unsure if they were being filmed by the person wearing the shirt, and would act unlike themselves. I don’t think other factors really influenced these new selves, and everyone would have access to these new selves.

JenniCam was a website created by a woman named Jennifer, and it was a way to see what Jennifer did throughout her day via web cameras placed around the rooms in her home. This project created a new view on what it means to be human by changing the privacy of one person. It allowed for the moments that would be private to be seen by all, something no one else had done. Take for example your friends, most of the time you don’t know what they did at say 3 am the night before, nor would you question it in most cases. But to anyone who used JenniCam they knew what she did at all times. It seemed to have been a way to express who she was as a whole, instead of just showing little specks of your life to people when you are interacting with one another. This project showed a different self. I think that gender, culture, and age  were large influences in this different self. JenniCam gave a look into someone’s life that many people don’t experience. However for this project I don’t believe that the very poor would have access to these new selves.
