Response 3 – MatthewL
For this assignment I picked to review the jennicam and Shooting Back
Jennie cam was for me quite interesting and made me think a little bit about human behavior. Through this website that Jennie ran early everything that this individual did became public. What she did is really plain and dry it is simple to state, Jennie streamed everything that she did 24/7 everything was shown. What she did is like the Truman Show but the main star is willing and knowing of what is going on around her. Something in in particular that interests me is how she was able to build up as big as she got and how she ran all of the technology it must have been expensive. I saw in one article that claimed she reached 11 million views a week, and was making money off of her premium viewers. I’m curious though as to it all lead up to this.
Could this have helped pave the way for reality television or perhaps other forms of media?
Shooting back was a protest of recording people in public areas. People did not being on camera everywhere they go. However in todays society it is difficult to not be. Part of this protest was to take cameras and film places monitored by security cameras. This was a challenge as to what is okay to be recording and not to. I’m curious to see if cameras were to become more invasive to everyday life how the average person would change their lives. Obviously in the case of Jennie cam it did not change all that much.
