Whilst reading through these projects two stood out to me in particular; “Shooting Back” as well as “Wearcam” as they both pertain to certain cultural topics that are prevalent today. We as a society in the US are often talking about ‘big-brother’ and how the government has constantly been monitoring us. Many enact that same freedom by filming in places that we are told we can’t, showing that we are all equal under law. Shooting back is a bit of a tongue in cheek jab towards that. We have cameras watching for anything bad we may do in many locations, the University, the store, and perhaps even our personal devices themselves, yet we simply allow this to happen with not much repercussion. If they can take photos of us, we should take photos of them, we see them, even if they think we can’t, an eye in the sky is a bit more obvious than they think.

Wearcam, something that was a bit more of a project in the 90’s was forshadowing something that we have now. Smartphones have the ability to film and share information within seconds, something that is completely foreign to a society as a whole, and the fact that this is within the past 15 years is amazing. We have different social values because of this, keeping one’s online image pure is something that is nearly impossible but many attempt to do it. Finsta’s (Fake Instagrams) are something that is made to keep more graphic or socially inappropriate behavior on lock behind closed doors. Society as a whole is going to change to adapt to this technology, as people feel more exposed than ever.
