The Cyborg in Us All takes a close look at implant technology and shows just how vague the line between human and machine can and will be. The article surely creates a new and strange mirror on what it means to be human. During our history and advancements, humans have created different ways to better themselves physically, especially in places with possible defects. Take for example glasses, these machines allow us to see better than we normally would. This is the first step towards humans becoming cyborgs. Using technology to physically better ourselves. The new tech being displayed in the reading is brain implants and other sorts of implants which will connect the human mind to computers. This is a huge step in the human race, becoming one with machines. This would certainly change the way that we behave and interact with each other, and the world around us. I am curious if these implants would become the next iPhone, if they would become a pop culture object that everyone who’s anyone would have?
Another Autobiography project which I liked was Shooting Back and the MaybeCam. These articles explained how everywhere we are being recorded by security cameras against our will. Some people have attempted to get back at these breaches in our own security by performing prank like activities. In these pranks the person pretends to videotape the camera or people near the security camera with notes that say video will be recorded for your protection. Reading about this made me really think about security cameras and just how common they have become. Everywhere we go we are recorded against our will and often we don’t really even know or realize. I understand that for the most part these surveillance cameras are used to try and document crime, but I have never really thought how these cameras encroach on our personal privacy.
