Welcome to Kaleb's Final Project. The purpose of my final project is to spread awareness of where your trash and recycling end up from situations and scenario's that happen almost on a daily basis since you're aware of it or not. This some what goes off of my main point of investing into degradable bags that are safe for the environment. But the point of this is to simulate and inform you the user about how you impact the environment.
[[ ...]]Click an option for a scenario.
[[store]]
[[bags from home]]
[[paper or plastic]]In this simulator you shall run through a simulator out of many that guides you to the life of a plastic bag to raise awareness of human idiocity. [[next]]You make it down to the cash register where the person is checking your items out and adding it to your receipt. As she is doing this she asks you if you want to buy there re-usable bag? What do you say?
[[yes, please]]
[[no, thank you]]
As always you have the store brand re-usable bags in your car. So you proceed to the grocery store and as always you buy more than what you thought you were going to. The bagger informs you that they would have to squeeze everything in if you want everything in your bags. What do you say?
[[squeeze]]
[[plastic please]]
[[I'll buy one of your reusable bags]]When going to a grocery store the default option for the bagger is to use plastic. It costs less to make and everyone likes it better than paper. However, paper is better for the environment and is a little more durable.
[[paper]]
[[plastic]]You ended up paying the extra dollar and in the process saved the planet from plastic ending up in the drainage, landfill, ocean, etc...
[[unpacking the car]]You end up with at least 5 store brand plastic bags, where you then go to place in your car.
[[unpacking the car]] As your driving back home you look on the sides of the road, and begin to notice all the trash and debris, that is effecting your environment you call your city or home.
[[keep on driving]]You finally make it home, where you bring your items back into your dorm room, apartment, or house. You set the items, into the refrigerator, freezer etc. You notice you have a galloon of plastic milk that's gone bad, you then decide to dump the milk out and place it in the [[garbage]] or in the [[recycling bin]]?Your trash, has made its way into a landfill, where it will be sorted, then dumped into a pile of trash waiting to get incinerated and turned to ash since you were to lazy to recycle it instead. Congratulations you made the world less cleaner. Return to the [[beginning]] and try again. You place it in the recylcing bin, with all the other recyclable material.
[[keep going]]The plastic bottle will be sorted with other plastics like it and will be broken down and either be in storage waiting to be reused or will benefit towards some future item or appliance down the road. Congratulations on saving the planet one plastic item at a time. Go to the [[beginning]] to try a different scenario. You recieve an extra plastic bag that the bagger fills the rest of your grocies with and you're leaving the store.
[[unpacking the car]] You see on the media platforms, and on television that it's earth day and haven't done much. So out of guilt today's the day out of 365 days that you decide to go eco-friendly and finally buy a reusable bag. Good for you don't know why it took you so long to do so.
[[chosing the right bag]]The baggers begin to stuff all of your grocery items into your bags, and you decide to [[leave the grocery store]].You begin to load the groceries, into your car and you realize that one of the bags that you've had for a long time rips and on the car ride home your debating about [[repairing the bag]] or [[throwing it away]]. You take your needle, and sewing supplies and start to repair the tear in the bag (if it was fabric based). Or you go for the duck tape and begin rapping the duck tape around the area, and repair it that way. In this case you are saving the environment by not using plastic bags and therefore are saving the environment.
[[keep going]] You decide to throw the bag away and it ends up in the [[garbage]].There are two options for you too chose for re-usable bags, a [[sturdier plastic bag]] or a [[fabric bag]], one is a little more expensive than the other. The sturdier plastic bag will not take long to tear and you've just spent 10 cents on a "re-usable bag". In disappointment, do you throw the bag into the [[garbage]] or the [[recycling bin]]?A fabric bag costs you on average about .75 cents a bag so you are investing into something that is sturdy, durable and would last you for years. You're happy about your choice and like the bags. Do you place them in a [[closet]] or somewhere easily accessible [[in your car]]?Both Answers are Right!
As long as you remember your bags and keep on using them you have saved the earth. Would you like to go deeper into saving the Earth or would you like to chose another scenario?
[[beginning]] [[keep on driving]]Both Answers are Right!
As long as you remember your bags and keep on using them you have saved the earth. Would you like to go deeper into saving the Earth or would you like to chose another scenario?
[[beginning]] [[keep on driving]]Paper bags are much easier and safer to use for the environment. Lets say you like using paper bags and one flew away because of strongs winds. A paper bag takes a month or less to decompse and it breaks down faster than plastic does and its not as harmful to the environment.
[[keep learning]]Plastic is an unhealthier choice for the environment. Buisnesses, like grocery stores, department stores, and other stores use plastic bags because its cheaper than buying re-usable bags and it doesn't cost them as much moeny. It takes a plastic bag 5 to 10 years to decompose and that is so much longer than what it does for anything biodegradable, or environmentally safe to use i.e. paper. The purpose behind plastics of all sorts is to provide a one time benefit and then to be thrown away or discarded into the environment. Whereas if you were to have something to reuse and recycle at least its making the environment safer and doesn't do as much damage. If you'd want to learn more [[keep going]] or if you want a different scenario then go to the [[beginning]].Its also best to know what happens when you recycle and throw stuff away. So you know where your trash is actually going and your recycling is actually going. If you'd like to learn more about recylcing you can go here: [[recycling bin]] or if you want to learn more about where your garbage goes click here: [[garbage]].
