Hacktivism Intent
Review New Media Strategies, New Media projects, and also any ideas about “what needs fixed” in your own world. How do these tools we’ve been exploring (websites, video, culture hacking, participatory theater, gaming etc) enable you to imagine projects that help you shape the world?
Come up with an idea for a project you would be interested in building.
OR
Use Augusto Boal’s tactic “Breaking of Repression” from page 349-350of Theater of the Oppressed: Consider a moment in which you were “repressed” or forced to do something against your will or values. Describe the scene, how it felt, what it was like to violate your own needs, values, or goals. Then come up with a few scenarios in which you did not accept the repression. Make these realistic. Did you fail the class? Did you lose your summer job? Maybe you can find some ways to prevent repression that are not as costly to you. What would this look like? How can you practice being a “standing man” in your own life?
Create a visual mock-up of the idea, as well as a clear concise description of the action or project.
Consider this a kind of proposal for a YES Men audition. Would they rally behind your proposal?
Include:
- Title
- Images or graphics (2-3) that SHOW your idea (the need not be original, but can be)
(keep upload images < 250K, use Preview to shrink images) - One sentence summary/abstract
- at least one paragraph for each of the following
- what is your concept/idea
- why this is important and for whom?
- what New Media/hacktivism strategies will you use and why?
- Who is the audience and how do you hope it will influence them?
- Rough budget for material, time, space needed to build; this can be a bullet list:
- list materials with cost
- list time to actually make/create project
- list tools, software, hardware, space or anything else needed
